We are not stupid, lazy or dirty.  We are your mothers, and your fathers. We are sisters, brothers, friends and co-workers.  We struggle to become what society finds acceptable.  We continually lose and gain weight until our bodies are worn out from it.  We spend thousands of dollars and many years of our lives trying to be what you want us to be.  Finally, there is a way.  Finally the American Medical Association sees our heath issues as just that.  Not as a failure in our personalities or a weakness in our spirit or minds.  Obesity is an illness.  Surgery is a treatment.  We wish for your support.  We appreciate your struggle to understand what is so different in our lives.  But if that is to hard for you, please move aside.  Our lives are at risk.  Walk beside us.  Stand behind us.  But, don't try to block our way.

I began my journey into the world of weight loss surgery in 2002. Though I had always dreamed of the opportunity to have wls, I never thought it would be possible for me. When I reached a point in my life when I decided it was possible, I went for it! This is a little about what I have experienced. I hope to help other morbidly obese people exploring this opportunity.

How many calories do I need to eat?  Seems everyone shoots for the 1000 calorie mark!  You actually can add a bit more to that and still lose weight!  It's very simple.  Take the weight you want to weigh and mult. by 10!  If you want to weigh 140 pounds, 140 X 10 = 1400 calories.  You can have 1400 calories per day and lose down to 140 pounds.  Those extra 400 calories will help you get through your tough times without "cheating".  I would try to stay away from high carb, or high fat foods because they trigger cravings for more high fat or high carb foods.  But grab some protein, or fruit or veggies and snack away.

Weight loss surgery is not the easy way out!  For some of us it's the only way out!

The largest woman on record weighed 1199 pounds.  She developed heart disease in the 1940's and lost down to 282 pounds.  Allowing her the record in most weight held and most weight lost.
